More light! Embedded-desk here we come

In this post we explain what we did to light up our “embedded”-desk.

As everything, it started with a need for light. And not a small amount. Enough to work well. Enough to see what you are doing. Enough to do what we do.

We decided to embed LED strips under the bottom shelf located over the desk. More specifically we made 20 strips with 21 pixels each.

LED-wise we used 12 V warm white 5050 LEDs. Each pixel use 0.2 W, totalling up to a total of 84 Watts.

To control the light we use a Z-wave compatible LED dimmer.

Yes, it’s a rather simple task to control LEDs like this, but we wanted it to be easy to incorporate in our already existing “office control environment” (which this lamp is a part of).

With over 2000 LUX at our embedded desk we have to call this a success 🙂
